The employer is a Lithuanian banking technology company and part of an international European financial group. It develops modular, cloud-based infrastructure for electronic money institutions, payment providers, and banks, covering digital onboarding, accounts, payments, compliance, and AML. Its products include a core banking platform and a payments gateway connecting financial institutions to SEPA, CENTROlink, Pay.UK, and other payment networks. The established business is scaling its platform and data capabilities, giving the Vilnius engineering team direct influence over systems used in regulated financial services.
💼 About the Role
As a Data Engineer, you will build the pipelines, models, and controls that turn complex financial data into reliable operational and analytical products. Your work will support payment processing, reconciliation, AML, risk monitoring, regulatory reporting, and customer operations. You will also help shape the company’s data architecture and engineering standards as its core banking and payments platform grows.
🔍 Responsibilities
Design and operate scalable batch and real-time pipelines for account, payment, customer, and transactional data;
Integrate data from the company’s core banking platform, payment gateways, financial messaging systems, and external service providers;
Develop reliable data models for operational reporting, reconciliation, financial analytics, AML, risk, and regulatory reporting;
Build and optimize ETL/ELT frameworks for performance, resilience, and maintainability;
Introduce automated data quality checks, lineage, monitoring, and observability across business-critical data flows;
Enable accurate processing and analysis of data associated with SEPA, ISO 20022, instant payments, and multi-currency accounts;
Work with Product, Engineering, Compliance, Risk, Finance, and Operations to translate business needs into production-ready data solutions;
Embed security, privacy, governance, and auditability requirements throughout the data lifecycle;
Support self-service analytics with trusted, clearly documented datasets and semantic models;
Improve the cloud data platform through automation, stronger engineering standards, and measurable reliability gains.
🎓 Requirements
3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, ETL Developer, or in a comparable role;
Proven experience working with high-volume transactional, financial services, payments, or other regulated-industry data;
Advanced SQL skills and practical experience with relational databases and modern data warehouses;
Strong Python skills for data processing, automation, and pipeline development;
Experience designing or operating cloud-native data solutions in Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud;
Sound knowledge of ETL/ELT methods, dimensional modelling, data warehousing, and analytics architecture;
A strong engineering mindset focused on data quality, security, reliability, testing, and maintainable documentation.
Nice to Have
Hands-on experience with Airflow, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Spark, dbt, Kafka, Event Hubs, or comparable technologies;
Knowledge of SEPA, SWIFT, ISO 20022, Open Banking, CENTROlink, or card payment ecosystems;
Experience supporting AML, reconciliation, regulatory reporting, risk, or finance functions;
Familiarity with Microsoft-based banking technology environments and real-time payment processing.
