As the business continues to grow, maintaining a strong and effective financial crime framework remains central to its regulated operations.
💼 About the Role
As MLRO, you will own the AML/CTF framework for the company's Lithuanian regulated payment institution, alongside responsibility for sanctions compliance and fraud prevention.
This is a senior leadership position with direct Board exposure, regulatory accountability and significant influence over the company's financial crime strategy. You will lead the Financial Crime team and work closely with Product, Technology and senior management to ensure controls remain effective as the regulated business develops across European markets.
🔍 Responsibilities
Act as the designated MLRO for the Lithuanian regulated payment institution, maintaining effective governance across KYC, transaction monitoring, screening and record-keeping;
Prepare, submit and oversee Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to the Lithuanian Financial Crime Investigation Service and support relevant group-level reporting;
Develop, maintain and continuously improve AML, sanctions and fraud prevention policies in line with Lithuanian and EU regulatory requirements;
Lead enterprise-wide, product and customer financial crime risk assessments, presenting material risks and recommendations to senior management and the Board;
Serve as the primary point of contact for regulators, law enforcement authorities and external stakeholders on financial crime matters;
Design and oversee international sanctions compliance controls, including customer screening, ongoing monitoring, escalation and regulatory reporting;
Own the fraud prevention strategy across detection, investigation, response and continuous improvement of controls;
Provide financial crime oversight appropriate to a regulated open banking environment covering payment initiation and account information services;
Partner with Product and Technology teams to automate controls and improve the efficiency of AML, sanctions and fraud operations;
Lead, mentor and develop the Financial Crime team, setting clear standards and priorities;
Provide expert oversight and final sign-off on complex investigations, SARs and high-risk financial crime cases.
🎓 Requirements
Proven experience as an MLRO or senior AML leader within a regulated FinTech, payment institution, PSP or comparable regulated financial services business;
Strong practical knowledge of Lithuanian AML/CTF requirements, EU financial crime frameworks and international sanctions regimes;
Hands-on experience preparing SARs, managing regulatory reporting and engaging directly with regulators;
Demonstrable expertise across AML, sanctions compliance and fraud risk management;
Experience leading and developing a compliance or financial crime team;
Strong understanding of transaction monitoring systems, screening platforms and fraud detection technologies;
Ability to assess financial crime risks within technology-driven payment products and cross-border financial services;
Confidence advising Boards and senior management on complex risks, regulatory obligations and control priorities;
Excellent written and spoken English.
Nice to Have
Professional fluency in Lithuanian;
Experience within open banking, payment initiation or account information services.
