Our client, an Estonia-based regulated FinTech, is looking for a Head of Legal to build and lead the legal and governance function, support the licensing journey, and ensure the company scales safely and compliantly.

You will be responsible for establishing strong legal foundations, strengthening governance, and acting as a key counterpart to regulators, external counsel, auditors, and senior stakeholders as the business matures.

The company is part of a larger group — a multi-jurisdictional fintech and digital asset infrastructure provider with presence across the EU, UK, USA, and the Middle East. The group builds regulated rails for digital assets and fiat payments, offering IBANs, crypto wallets, cross-border payments, card acquiring, and card issuing — all under a single compliant framework.

🔍 Responsibilities:

• Lead the company’s legal strategy across regulated digital assets and payments activities;

• Act as the primary legal advisor to senior management and group stakeholders;

• Oversee compliance with Estonian and EU financial services regulation (EMI, CASP, AML, governance);

• Support licensing processes and ongoing regulatory interactions with Estonian authorities;

• Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial, financial, and group-level agreements;

• Establish and maintain internal legal policies, governance frameworks, and controls;

• Manage external legal counsel across multiple jurisdictions;

• Monitor regulatory developments and proactively assess legal and business impact;

• Support cross-functional teams (compliance, product, operations) with legal guidance;

• Contribute to building scalable legal processes suitable for a growing FinTech group.

🎓 Requirements:

• Law degree obtained in Estonia (mandatory);

• Background as an attorney, banking/financial services lawyer, or former regulator preferred;

• Strong experience within regulated financial services, payments, or digital assets;

• Solid knowledge of Estonian and EU regulatory frameworks;

• Experience interacting with supervisory or regulatory authorities;

• Ability to balance regulatory risk with commercial objectives;

• Excellent English and Estonian languages, (written and spoken) knowledge of Russian languages would be a strong advantage;

• High level of independence, judgment, and professional integrity.
