Our client, an Estonia-based regulated FinTech, is looking for a Chief Risk Officer (CRO) to shape and lead the enterprise risk framework, safeguard regulatory compliance, and support sustainable growth as the business scales and its regulatory obligations expand.
The CRO is a pivotal C-level role responsible for defining the company’s risk appetite, strengthening governance, and serving as a key counterpart to regulators, auditors, and executive stakeholders.
The company is part of a larger group — a multi-jurisdictional fintech and digital asset infrastructure provider with presence across the EU, UK, USA, and the Middle East. The group builds regulated rails for digital assets and fiat payments, offering business clients IBANs, crypto wallets, cross-border payments, card acquiring, card issuing, and more — all under a single compliant framework.
🔍 Responsibilities:
Define, implement, and continuously improve the company’s enterprise risk management framework;
Act as the primary owner of financial, operational, regulatory, and strategic risk oversight;
Ensure ongoing compliance with Estonian and EU regulatory requirements;
Prepare and present risk reports to the Management Board and supervisory bodies;
Oversee risk assessments related to products, clients, partners, and transactions;
Collaborate closely with Compliance, AML, Finance, and Operations teams;
Act as a key point of contact for regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders;
Embed a strong risk-aware culture across the organization;
Advise executive leadership on risk appetite and risk-adjusted growth decisions.
🎓 Requirements:
Proven experience in a senior risk role within FinTech, Banking, or Payments sectors;
Strong understanding of EU and Estonian regulatory frameworks;
Prior experience interacting with financial regulators and supervisory authorities;
Strategic mindset with the ability to operate at C-level;
Fluency in Estonian,and English; Russian language skills are a strong advantage;
Estonian permanent residency is required; citizenship strongly preferred;
Solid analytical skills combined with pragmatic decision-making.
