A top-ranking electronic money institution (EMI) in the Baltics, rapidly expanding across Europe with a vision to redefine digital finance. They’re launching a strategic initiative to bring their banking core in-house — a mission-critical project that will become the foundation of their entire product ecosystem.
As Head of Engineering (Banking Core), you’ll report directly to the CTO and own this transformation from start to finish — from strategic decision-making to team building and delivery. This is a rare opportunity to architect the heart of a modern FinTech platform and shape the company’s technological future.
🔍 Responsibilities:
- Define and lead the strategic roadmap for the new Banking Core platform.
- Drive the “build vs. buy vs. assemble” analysis and present data-driven recommendations.
- Build and scale a dedicated Banking Core engineering team from scratch.
- Design the system architecture — ensuring it’s secure, compliant, and scalable.
- Manage end-to-end delivery and successful migration from the existing vendor solution.
- Partner with Product, Compliance, and Operations teams to define requirements and timelines.
- Lead technical decision-making across infrastructure, architecture, and vendor integration.
- Implement long-term maintenance, monitoring, and operational excellence practices.
- Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
🎓 Requirements:
- 7+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years in a lead or management role.
- Proven experience with Core Banking systems (ledgers, accounts, payments, transactions).
- Strong track record of executing large-scale technical projects or system migrations.
- Hands-on architecture expertise with modern cloud-native technologies (AWS, APIs, microservices).
- Experience hiring and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.
- Excellent strategic and stakeholder management skills — able to align tech vision with business goals.
- Deep understanding of FinTech or EMI environments and regulatory contexts.
- Product-oriented mindset — you care about impact and user outcomes as much as architecture.
