Our client, an emerging FinTech preparing to obtain an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license in Latvia, is seeking for hands-on Solution Architect with deep practical experience designing and building eCommerce acquiring systems to join the newly established fintech in Latvia. This is a pivotal technical role within a greenfield payments product combining EMI licensing, payment processing, and a payment gateway to create a high-performance acquiring business.
As Solution Architect, you will sit at the intersection of technical depth and commercial practicality, translating business and compliance requirements into robust, scalable architectures for card acquiring, scheme integrations, and merchant-facing payment flows. You will work closely with the CTO, engineering team, and external partners to ensure every system component is designed for resilience, performance, and regulatory fit from day one.
We need someone who has built acquirers before, understands the nuances of card scheme rails, and can contribute directly to solution design, vendor evaluation, and integration architecture.
🔍 Responsibilities:
Design end-to-end acquiring architecture covering authorization, clearing, settlement, refunds, chargebacks, and reconciliation flows.
Define component architecture for the payment gateway and processing platform: transaction routing, failover, retry logic, idempotency, and state management.
Establish data architecture and modelling standards for transactional, financial, and reporting data (PostgreSQL/MySQL/Aurora).
Produce architecture artefacts that support regulatory and compliance requirements (EMI licensing, PCI-DSS scope, audit readiness).
Architect integrations with KYC/AML providers, fraud tooling, PSP/processing partners, and other third-party platforms.
Collaborate closely with compliance, legal, and operations teams to align all technology components with the EMI licensing documentation and regulatory expectations.
Define system scalability, data protection, and cybersecurity protocols to meet both current and future operational needs.
Provide technical documentation and architectural support during the regulator’s evaluation and audits.
Post-licensing, lead the development and expansion of digital products, payment solutions, and user-facing platforms.
🎓 Requirements:
5+ years of experience in software architecture, infrastructure, or product engineering within a regulated Fintech (specifically in Payment Service Provider).
Proven experience leading the technology setup and integration of online payment acceptance tools (Visa, Mastercard, Open Banking, Alternative Payment Methods,), payment gateways and etc.
Strong understanding of payment systems, electronic money frameworks, and security standards (PCI DSS, ISO 27001, GDPR).
Hands-on experience with core banking platforms, API orchestration, and cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
Solid grasp of data governance, encryption, and systems monitoring best practices.
University degree in computer science, information systems, or a related technical field.
Fluency in English and Latvian. Russian proficiency considered as a strong advantage.
Must meet the “fit and proper” requirements of the Bank of Latvia, including demonstrable competence, integrity, and professional reputation.
