Our client, an innovative and fast-growing payment service provider, is seeking a hands-on commercial leader to head their Business Development Department.
They are looking for a dynamic and results-driven CBDO who can take full ownership of the company’s commercial strategy — someone who not only sets the vision, manages the team, and drives KPIs, but also actively engages in strategic deals, contributes to product development, and works “on the ground” with clients and partners to grow the business. This role combines strategic leadership with direct execution and requires a strong mix of management, sales expertise, and product understanding.
The client offers a comprehensive suite of payment solutions, including card acquiring, alternative payment methods (APM), and POS terminals, designed for both online and offline merchants across the EEA and the UK. With a focus on low- and mid-risk businesses, the company delivers modern, reliable, and cost-effective solutions supported by excellent customer service and a dynamic, product-led approach.
🔍 Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the sales team: set strategy, define KPIs, monitor performance, and coach team members.
- Drive the acquisition of new low- and mid-risk merchants in the EU and UK, focusing on APM, card acquiring, and POS solutions.
- Personally engage in key client meetings and negotiations, setting the standard for execution.
- Build and maintain a strong merchant pipeline, ensuring consistent revenue growth.
- Collaborate with the product and marketing teams to refine the value proposition and develop competitive offerings.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
- Monitor market trends, competitors, and customer feedback to shape business development initiatives.
- Provide regular updates and insights to senior management on performance and market opportunities.
🎓 Requirements:
- 5+ years of sales and business development experience in the payments or fintech industry, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of building and leading successful sales teams while personally delivering on key accounts.
- Strong expertise in APM, card acquiring, and/or POS products for low- and mid-risk merchants.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
- Strategic mindset with a hands-on approach — able to set direction and execute.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills in English.
- Deep understanding of the European e-commerce and retail payments landscape.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and entrepreneurial environment.
